Woodhouse Moor (North Route)

At public consultation in Summer 2009, two options were presented for the alignment across Woodhouse Moor:

Option A (shown as the solid orange line on the map below) is for a segregated ‘NGT only’ lane to run separately from the existing highway on Monument Moor.

Option B (shown as the dotted orange line on the map below) is for an ‘NGT only’ lane to run alongside Woodhouse Lane using the existing verge and footway.

Following concerns expressed during public consultation relating to the impact of these options on the Moor, the Design Team has carried out an additional study of a number of possible alternatives, which have sought to avoid road widening or running NGT across the Moor. This study highlighted the potentially substantial adverse impact these 'traffic management' alternatives would have on roads around the Moor. The Project Team is therefore now recommending that the busway across Monument Moor (Option A) should be the Preferred Option for this section of alignment given these potentially adverse impacts.

The details of the proposed Transport and Works application for the NGT scheme (including Woodhouse Moor) were agreed by LCC Executive Board on 10th March 2010.

Adopted Option (A) - Key issues:

  • Retains the existing local landscape character by allowing the retention and enhancement of the avenue of trees alongside the existing highway;
  • Minimises the visual impact of the NGT lane;
  • Minimal impact on existing footway and avoids road widening; and
  • Requires some land to be taken from the Moor.

It should be noted that no significant changes are proposed for the Northbound carriageway across the moor.
