About NGT
In June 2010 the Department for Transport announced that all major transport schemes (including the NGT trolleybus scheme) were to be reviewed as part of the wider government Comprehensive Spending Review.
At the moment, in line with instructions given by the Department for Transport, development activity has been minimised until the results of the ongoing review are known. The NGT Promoters remain confident that the scheme will continue to be supported by the Government following the ongoing spending review, particularly given that the Department for Transport has previously acknowledged the benefits that NGT would provide.

Three initial routes have been identified to provide links to North, South and East leeds.
Proposed links to:
North Leeds to Holt Park, through Headingley along the A660. - South Leeds through Hunslet.
- East Leeds to St James's Hospital.

NGT proposals include:
- exclusive lanes and roads and special equipment to give NGT vehicles priority at traffic lights and junctions;
- new, fully accessible vehicles that are both comfortable and better for the environment;
- high quality stops and shelters with real-time information showing passengers when NGT services are due to arrive;
- large Park & Ride sites for people wanting to avoid the jams by swapping from the car to NGT.
What happens next?
The NGT scheme was given 'Programme Entry Approval', the first stage in the Government approval process, on 22 March 2010.
Given the Government's current Spending Review the Transport and Works Act Order Application will not now be submitted this Autumn. The timescales for the NGT scheme will be reviewed following the outcome of the Spending Review. Further details will be made available on the website once the position is clearer.
